5 Effective Tricks for More Structure in Your Flower Bed
Do you often stand in front of your flower beds and think: "This is chaos, everything is growing wildly together, how can I bring some structure to this bed?" Don't despair, we'll show you how to create more structure and order in your flower bed with minimal effort.

1. Use trellises
One of the most effective tricks for more structure in the garden bed is the use of trellises and climbing supports. These allow plants to grow upwards and create spatial separation within the bed. Choose metal models – they are sturdy and weatherproof.
Trellising aids, such as our Trellising Obelisks, are also beautifully designed elements that are a great eye-catcher in the flower bed, regardless of the plants.
2. Pay attention to planting distance
One of the most common reasons for what appears to be chaos in the flower bed is planting that is too dense. In addition, the plants compete for light and nutrients – resulting in poorer growth.
To bring structure to your flower bed, a firm hand with a spade will do the trick: remove plants that are too close together. When planting new plants in your bed, observe the recommended planting distance indicated on the label. This provides good orientation.

3. Arrange plants by size
To ensure all plants in your flower bed are optimally visible, they must be arranged according to their mature height. Large plants and shrubs are placed in the back of the bed. Here you can also place plants that climb upwards using trellises or other supports. Small plants and ground cover go in the front. This creates a visual gradation that appears very structured and harmonious, and also ensures that plants growing close to the ground are not hidden by larger ones.

4. Remove weeds and grass regularly
Weeds – or rather wild herbs – and sprouting grass can make your flower beds look chaotic and neglected. So there's no way around it: you have to weed and pull them regularly.
This is easier when the soil is softened. Therefore, wait for the next rain shower before you start weeding. Alternatively, you can use a watering can to moisten the soil.

5. Use Bark Mulch
Using bark mulch in your flower beds offers several advantages. A thick layer of mulch protects the soil from drying out, inhibits weed growth, and adds nutrients to the soil. In addition, bark mulch creates a tidy appearance and provides a neutral background – making the colors of your plants stand out more.
Little effort – big benefits for your beds
As you can see, it doesn't take much to bring more structure and order to your flower beds.
Trellises, the right plant arrangement, proper care, and bark mulch all contribute significantly to making your flowerbeds a beautiful sight and allowing your plants to develop well and healthily.
