  • For plant care, it is recommended to remove withered flowers, prune herbs, and collect seeds for next year.
  • Freshly harvested fruits and vegetables can be excellently preserved while preparations for autumn begin – ELEO raised beds offer stylish support for this.

The August is the peak month of summer, spoiling us with colors and delights in the garden – and often with intense heat. August is typically very hot, and long dry spells are not uncommon. Regular watering is therefore especially important. It's best to water early in the morning or in the evening when the sun isn't so strong. Avoid watering directly onto the leaves if possible, as this can promote fungal diseases. Also, ensure your plants receive sufficient nutrients. In August, you can apply a potassium-rich fertilizer to encourage flowering and fruit ripening. Plant Care & Seed Collection

Regularly remove faded shoots and flowers so the plants can direct their energy into fruit and new blooms. Perennials that flowered in spring or early summer can be divided in August. This allows you to grow new plants and add more color to your flower bed. Regularly prune herbs you use so they grow bushy.

Collect the seeds from your favorite plants once they've finished flowering to sow them again next year.

    Harvesting and Preserving

August offers a bountiful buffet of fresh fruits and vegetables. Raspberries, currants, blackberries, plums, apples, and pears are wonderful for making jams and compotes. Vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, peppers, eggplants, and potatoes are also suitable for canning or freezing. Herbs can also be frozen. To do this, chop the herbs finely and place them in ice cube trays. Add a little water. This way, you always have fresh herbs readily available in convenient portions when needed.

    Preparing for Autumn

Even though August is the quintessential summer month and perfect for enjoying long evenings and barbecues with friends and family in the garden, it's also the month to start preparing for autumn. During the month, you can plant new flower bulbs for next spring. You can also prepare and dig over beds that will be replanted in autumn.

Farmer's proverb of the month: If August starts hot, the winter will be harsh and white; if thunderstorms occur, it will be so until the end.
