From old to new: Make your own garden decorations from used items
Take a look in your kitchen cupboard and your garden toolbox. You're sure to find one or two items that have seen better days and can be discarded. But old sieves, jars, and trowels are far too good to throw away. Because they can be wonderfully transformed into original garden decorations – upcycling is all the rage!
Kitchen sieve and cups – a new home for plants
An old colander can be transformed into an extraordinary flower pot in no time. Besides a kitchen sieve or colander, you'll need some fleece, potting soil, and small plants – for example, pansies, violas, or succulents.

Cut the fleece into a circle to fit the sieve and place it inside. Then add potting soil. Now you can plant the plants. A practical advantage of an old sieve is that the drainage holes prevent waterlogging.

Old coffee cups and mugs are wonderful for use as fun planters for smaller plants. Forget-me-nots, chamomile, or violets are particularly suitable and make colorful eye-catchers. Do not place the plants directly into the cups without their pots, otherwise waterlogging will quickly occur and the delicate flowers will die.
Planted coffee cups make great DIY garden decorations for your garden table, but they also look lovely on a flower bed fence. Simply attach hooks to your fence and then hang the cups from them.
Used Tools – Make a Garden Mobile
Bring new life to old garden tools by crafting a creative garden mobile. For example, take an old trowel, a double hoe, a garden fork, and a small rake and paint them with bright colors. Waterproof paints are best, as they won't be affected by rain. Ideally, the handles already have a hole through which you can thread cords of varying lengths. Now hang the painted tools close together – for example, on a tree or a roof. Your DIY mobile is finished!
Romantic lanterns made from old jars
Among the classics of homemade garden decorations are atmospheric lanterns, which you can easily craft from old canning jars.

For this, take clean jars and decorate them as you like by, for example, wrapping or gluing lace trim or macrame fabric around the glass. Fill the mason jars with some sand or gravel and place a tea light inside. If you wish, you can hang your handmade candle holder with a string. The more glasses you hang, the more beautiful and romantic the atmosphere in your garden will be as dusk falls.
DIY Garden Decor: Creative & Practical – From Concrete to Polymer Clay
With concrete and modeling clay (polymer clay), you can craft unique flower pots, large planters, and pretty plant markers with a little skill. There are no limits to your creativity. Both concrete and modeling clay can be painted and further decorated once they have hardened.
Make Your Own Concrete Flower Pots – Individual and Modern
Concrete is trending. The gray material is sturdy, looks modern, and blends harmoniously into the overall look of your garden or balcony. But you don't have to buy these trendy pots at a high price in the garden center – simply make your own concrete pots! Whether as a small planter or a large plant pot: All you need is ready-mix concrete, different-sized molds for casting (for example, two buckets), sand, and sandpaper. Here's how: Oil the molds, such as buckets, well so that the concrete block will be easier to remove later. Take the concrete mix and prepare it according to the package instructions. Pour about a quarter of the mix into the larger mold. Spread the concrete. Now take the second mold and press it into the soft concrete. Fill the inner mold with sand. This prevents the concrete from denting the mold. Pour the remaining concrete around the second mold. Now you wait. After the hardening time, you can carefully separate the molds.
You can then sand the finished concrete planter to remove any small imperfections.

Craft weatherproof herb and plant markers from modeling clay
When was the last time you worked with modeling clay like Fimo? It may be decades ago, but it's still just as much fun today as it was in childhood. With this malleable clay, you can create pretty and weatherproof plant markers that are perfect for decorating flower, herb, and vegetable beds. Choose air-drying modeling clay – it's the easiest to work with. Now it's time to get creative. Take small pieces of the clay and shape them into markers – elongated rectangles, squares, or circles.
Using a toothpick, you can etch patterns as well as plant and herb names into the still-damp clay. Once the modeling clay has completely hardened, you can paint your homemade plant markers with weatherproof paint – and your DIY garden decorations are ready to use!
